Hairy Tarantula Challenge Series

Changes are coming for 2020! Read all about it!

The Hairy Tarantula Challenge Series is our (mostly) weekly Series of Competitve Magic: the Gathering Tournaments. Covering a range of Magic Formats, of both individual and team varieties, each event features ~$1000 in prizes, and invites to our end-of-season, invite-only event: The Final Challenge.

Point System

The Hairy Tarantula Challenge Series features a championship point system, where top competitors receive points based on their finishing position. In addition, Players who finish in the top half of the playoff cut receive bonus points based on their seed entering the playoffs. These championship points are used to qualify for The Final Challenge, and the top players in the Points Standings receive byes in The Final Challenge. Points are awarded as follows:

Qualifying for The Final Challenge

Players with 10 or more Championship Points qualify for The Final Challenge
The Defending Champion is automatically qualified for The Final Challenge
NEW! As part of our League Series, for each of our participating weekly event slots (currently Monday Draft, Thursday Standard, and FNM's 7pm Modern), the player with the most points in a special extended season (for Season Two of 2019 this is August-November), that is not already qualified, receives a special invite to The Final Challenge. These invites do not include Championship Points, and become official after the regular season of the Series concludes (December 8).

Byes for The Final Challenge are awarded to top ranked players in the Championship Standings as follows:

1st: 2-round bye
2nd-10th: 1-round bye

Ties in Championship Standings are broken as follows: by most Wins, most playoff finishes (Top 8, or Top 4 Teams), and most events started. If 1st place remains tied the series head-to-head record breaks the tie, and if that is tied, a one match playoff is held. A tie for 10th place will see all players in that tie awarded one bye. Ties farther down in the standings are effectively irrelevant.

Standings are available at THIS PAGE.
